CHARACTER NAME: Rico Dredd backtagging: Yes! I totally understand if it’s been a few weeks or months. No comment owed or necessary, this is a hobby and I’ll be happy to pick it back up. Just dunk it into my inbox like a basketball. hugging/flirting/kissing: Go for it. He might be interested, might not. ***police state, police brutality, abuse of power, fascism, totalitarianism, state violence, surveillance***: Rico is part of a totalitarian government (the Justice Department) which enforces an extremely strict law to deal with an insane crime rate, relying on individual, highly-trained "Judges" who have the power to instantly convict and sentence people of crimes on the spot. Themes of police brutality are extremely present in the canon. He also abuses his position for $$$.
CHARACTER CANON: Judge Dredd tl;dr: Rico Dredd is a young man with a “bit” of a ego. Charming and handsome, but teetering on the edge of too many impulses and hiding it. He's a Judge (basically: I AM THE LAW, with more black leather and boot knives and summary sentencing), which has left him severely desensitized to violence, but also with methods to make a lot of money if you’re willing to get equally illegal about it. Which he totally is.
I play him in memes mostly, so I'm usually willing to try AU-ing him or merging settings (see here). Genres such as sci-fi, post-apocalyptic, modern day, urban fantasy, superheroes/villains, any setting with law enforcement etc work especially well, but I’m always open to others.
state of the rp:
// OOC //
threadhopping: Feel free to hop into open network threads or chime in on any of Rico's public network comments at any time, I love organic discussion. For log posts, please run it by whoever’s involved in the log first
fourthwalling: Yes.
facetwins: Sure, why not? I love this trope, lol. I'm happy to either lean into those shenanigans or just treat them like similar-but-not-identical-looking.
shipping: I love gen CR as well, but I’m pretty much always open to shipping! No underage. Any actual, extended romantic relationship with Rico would probably be... interesting. Anticipate at least some baseline toxicity tbh. He has a bad habit of becoming obsessed with novelty, then discarding people like hot potatoes when he loses interest. But when he’s into you, he’s spending a lot of his limited free time with you. And if he genuinely gives a shit, there’s not much he wouldn’t do for you (up to and including crimes). Do read the warnings though, so you’re okay with his whole romantic dealio.NOTE: I treat anything beyond mild egotistical flirtation from Rico as a very opt-in thing bc of his laundry list of romantic issues, and always assume gen unless interest in shipping is shown otherwise. There are zero expectations of anything being received well at all or reciprocated.
offensive subjects: No specific subjects come to mind. I don't have any triggers and it’s literally all fine with me. I’m open to explore pretty much anything as long as it’s interesting.
other notes:
↪ Please let me know if you would like me to alter a tag, the direction of a thread, or if anything makes you uncomfortable at all! I'm definitely happy to do so. I try to be very conscious of permissions as well.
↪ Sexual elements are kept completely separate from any violence as the default unless specifically requested or discussed. I feel a bit self-conscious about this at times, so I like to make that clear just in case.
↪ Shipping prefs/notes in games will likely be different vs. memes! If Rico is in a game, please check that specific game’s permission page.
↪ Rico may attempt manipulation etc, but that doesn't mean he'll be right on the money every time. Feel free to let your character react ic naturally however to his actions or attitude.
↪ Again, he is a highly unreliable narrator, and that may flavor his internal dialogue, recollection, or interpretation of ongoing or past events. He may admit to contradictory things. gaslight girlboss lies to himself too 🥺

fighting: Yes!
injuries or death: Inflicting minor injuries (cuts, bruises, small burns) is alright. I’d prefer to talk before serious injuries (broken bones, major burns, potentially life-threatening stuff), but it’s fine if it’s already the thread premise or leading in that direction. I’m absolutely down for killing, but contact me first.
telepathy/mind-reading powers: Sure, I love that stuff! Let me know and we can hash it out.
manipulation: Yesssss.
// WARNINGS //
solitary confinement
violence: He uses excessive force against criminals, tortures them, takes bribes and sets up extortion rackets. He also breaks bones and kills people in the legal, allowed course of doing his job as a Judge. Rico does find some forms of cruelty or violence entertaining to carry out.
child soldiers: Children from age five are entered as cadets into the Academy of Law to be trained as Judges.
capital punishment / summary execution: Responding with lethal force on attempts on their lives or citizen’s lives is treated as expected and routine for Judges. Rico has deliberately killed people who were surrendering and falsified his reports. He also participated in carrying out summary executions as a child in the immediate post-apocalypse.
mental illness: He has some mental health issues, definite anger issues, and can behave erratically. He also has trouble regulating his emotions and impulses, acting out in self-destructive and regular-destructive ways. Rico suffered (and made a full recovery) from severe head trauma that has been speculated in-universe as a possible reason for his actions.
unhealthy relationships / domestic violence: Rico was in a relationship with an extreme power imbalance when he dated a citizen, where he thought he was in love with her. While there was no violence during the relationship, when they broke up (by him ghosting her), his ex-girlfriend kept coming to his workplace to try and contact him, which risked revealing their relationship. So he pretended to be his identical brother, destroyed her apartment and threatened her to intimidate her into stopping. Also, may have inadvertently love bombed if you read between the lines. There may be internal rhetoric justifying this abuse if it ever comes up.
drug/alcohol abuse: Gets hellishly drunk and makes unwise decisions, uses stimulants when he "needs a boost".
celibacy, mentions of chemical castration and aversion therapy: Judges are full stop forbidden from having any romantic relationships or sex, which Rico does. Those who are discovered having sexual relationships can stop being a Judge or voluntarily undergo chemical castration or aversion therapy to keep their position. This doesn't happen to Rico, but it's a consequence he thinks about in this context. Very unlikely to be brought up unless directly relevant.
eugenics/mutant discrimination
nuclear weapons and fallout, post-apocalyptic setting, witnessed a sexual assault at a young age: Rico lived through the Atomic War at age ten. Most of the world turned into a nuclear wasteland with some global Mega-Cities surviving. Mega-City One (sprawling over the U.S. east coast) managed to deflect most of the damage, but there was chaos in the streets, civil war with the military, and temporarily lowered standards for summary execution (e.g. looting, stealing, violent behavior). He observed and stopped a lot of seriously fucked up behavior during this time, but graphic details or even mentions of it are very unlikely to come up normally in threads. I wanted to warn for this content anyway in case it was sensitive, since it's part of his canon backstory.
Non-consensual surgery, cybernetics, body horror: Later on in his canon point while in prison, Rico is subject to surgery modifying his body with cybernetics without his consent and his facial features are mutilated in the process.
suicide ideation: May have some vague thoughts, consideration, or mentions of suicide in internal narration. He does plan and make an attempt in canon when he tries for a suicide-by-cop from his brother by inciting him to execute him. Rico may treat the idea of his own death or suicidal ideation (if applicable, as this might not always be present in an AU) with a trivializing, casual or flippant attitude if it comes up. Bringing this topic up in a way that would make your character respond to it (at all or in-depth) is very unlikely to happen normally.
I know that's a long list of heavy stuff, and I completely understand if you have no desire to tag, be tagged, or engage with any of the material that deals with all this, so leave a comment here if you want to opt out of any aspect of it, or his character entirely! Screening is on, and comments can be unscreened on request.
